Material Handling and VTI
One material that is used for hard surfaces in homes, businesses, and even public buildings is VTI material. And one of the main tasks used to work with VTI is handling it. This includes both loading it, unloading it, positioning it on other equipment, and even placing it on fixtures where it will be worked. These tasks require engineered quartz equipment. In this article, we will take a look at what equipment is involved with fabricating VTI and we will touch on some other interesting points regarding it.
How is Material Handling Defined?
If you were asked to describe VTI material handling, what would you say it involves? If you said, "a lot of things.", you would be right. Handling VTI involves several specific tasks. One of them is loading products onto and uloading products from vehicles. Additionally, transporting VTI slabs from one side of the fabrication shop to the other is included in material handling. In fact, just storing VTI in a warehouse or slab yard is considered material handling as well. These are not the only ways to handle VTI, but they are included.
Storage Equipment for VTI
Slabs in fabrication shops can sometimes sit for a period of time before they are used for creating a surface. That is where the storage aspect of material handling comes in. VTI slabs need to be kept somewhere when they are not being used. Fabricators make use of a buffalo VTI slab rack to keep the slabs in until they are ready to use them.
Equipment for Transporting VTI
Fabrication shops require a number of pieces of equipment to operate smoothly. One of those is a VTI single sided a frame cart or similar product. Why is that the case? Well, the easiest way to say it is that it makes the work easier and smoother by allowing the VTI slabs to be moved on a fixture rather than without one. Some of the transport carts can have casters (wheels) added to them so they can be loaded and rolled. Whether you are using a rolling cart in the shop or an a-frame along a wall of the delivery van, these units are practical.
VTI Loading & Unloading Equipment
Working in a warehouse, slab yard, or fabrication shop means having to lift or hoist large lsabs of material repeatedly and it is no different when the material is VTI. Being able to get a good grip on the VTI slab can be the difference between success and failure. And with the right equipment, this is possible. One example of a piece of equipment designed to help workers get ahold of a VTI slab is a jumbo wide grip lifter for wide materials. This machine, like others is designed to hold onto the material so it can be loaded or unloaded during the process of storage, delivery and/or fabrication.
Like other products that are engineered quartz, VTI products are easier to transport and maneuver if you have the proper equipment to perform the necessary tasks. Choosing the right tools, machines and material handling equipment goes a long way toward that goal.
